This is a tile project that we completed at a dental office in Gold River, which is a suburb community in Sacramento, California that lies nestled next to Rancho Cordova and Folsom.
We tiled a large accent wall in the lobby area, along with a standard restroom.
A little background about this project...
According to my general contractor and team members, this project was on and off again, a few times. It was an empty space in a commercial building. The GC was able to renovate it enough to show it off to any potential new tenants to lease in the field of dentistry. It took a few months to land one. And then they went through the design phase.
Due to some of the products and finishes that the new tenant chose, some of the special designer items had to be custom made and was on back order for 6-8 weeks.
Therefore, the scheduling of trades were a little more flexible than usual. We had the opportunity to come in and perform some of the work, if we chose to. But that would mean that we would have to return later to finish. We had a gap in our schedule anyways, so it worked out great.
We tiled the restroom first, so we'll start off with that space first.
It's just a standard size restroom, that is 7'6" x 7'6" with a 4 foot high wainscot.
For sanitary purposes, there's also a Schluter cove base metal trim at the change of plane where the floor and wall tiles meet.
This is the accent wall behind the receptionists desk in the lobby. It was referred to as the "logo wall" throughout the project. It is approximately 17 feet wide by 9-1/2 feet high.
As you can see, the tile has a cool old school type of mirror-like reflection.
Initially, there were concerns about it actually being a metal faced tile, such as aluminum. The main concern was that it would be difficult to cut through. But, once I opened up a carton sitting on the pallet and got my hands and eyes on them, I knew it wouldn't be an issue. These tiles are just like many other porcelain tiles. They're manufactured with a metal looking glaze on the face.
Due to waiting for the door casings and trim to arrive and installed, we were only able to install full tiles on the wall.
We could have installed the cuts along the top on the same day, but chose not to. It was more feasibly productive for us with time management to wait to set up our tile cutting saws just once, when everything was ready for us to return back to finish.
The tenants liked the tile as-is, without any grout. So we haven't been back since we finished installing the tile. The project manager pulled out our blue horseshoe spacers and buffed the tiles for a clean finished appearance for us.
This is the view right outside of the commercial office building - located at the corner of Sunrise Blvd and Gold Express Drive.

It's the watershed flowing in a creek that drains into the American River.
